Fookin EPC
« on: 10 March 2009, 14:46 »
fast lane of motorway (only doing 70ish tho) this morning on way back from b'ham and all of a sudden revs drop and i see the 'epc' light come on aswell as 'slippery road surface' light

had to somehow get onto the hard shoulder in rush hour. got the car stopped and it started shaking slightly like we would if it was cold. turned ignition off and took keys out then waited a minute and started her up and it all seemed fine.
im so pi££ed off its untrue. gotta take it back to the garage now to see what the problem is
Is it best to go straight to a vw garage ??

did see a nice old school rocco tho reg f99 ___

You really need to take it to a stealer, or hook up vag-com to it - ASAP.  Because the EPC light should only come on when specific engine ECU fault codes have been logged.  Some of these fault codes are 'volatile' - in that after a certain number of engine starts, they self-erase from the DTC memories.

And the 'slippery road surface' - ain't that the ESP light?  Has that now gone out?

Finally, what is your battery voltage like?  Does it sound if the battery might be on its way out?

Be careful about taking it to any old garage.  Most non-VAG fault code readers, even fookin expensive Snap-On ones, can NOT correctly erase, or even read VAG specific fault codes.  So you may end up paying twice.  Unless you have vag-com, in this instance, you really are best to bite the bullet and go straight to your VW stealer - or any VAG specific independent who has either vag-com or VAS5051/2.

Vag-Com is basically a windows based software package, which is virtually identical to the genuine VW/Audi systems.  The software is downloadable for free from its makers, www.Ross-Tech.com.

But you also need the correct 'lead'.  You can also purchase a genuine lead direct from Ross-Tech, or one of their UK re-sellers - and you will have full fuction from the vag-com software, as well as official technical support from Ross-Tech.  Or you can buy a non-genuine lead, but then have limited functions with the vag-com softwear.

Surely there must be an independent VAG specialist in or near Birmingham.  Try Googling "VAG independent specialist in Birmingham".   And make sure you use www.Google.co.uk, and NOT Google.com.

Result then - and a Seat garage might be a bit cheaper than a VW one. :afro:
