mk2 5-speed gearboxes
« on: 01 July 2003, 18:36 »
 ???
The input shaft bearings have started to make a bit of noise so I am looking for a replacement 2nd-hand gearbox. The car is a 1991 MK2 Golf Driver 1.8 (GU series engine) and the gearbox code begins with AZT. Is this an "020" gearbox?

I have been told by a local specialist (S.Devon area) to try and get hold of a gearbox from a 1.8 GL as it will give taller gears and better fuel economy.

Any idea what the gearbox code is I should  be looking for?

'taller gears and better fuel economy'..........I assume that's at the expense of performance and acceleration then.

Anyway, for what use it is here is the online ETKA for your gearbox:-

http://www.elcats.ru/audivw/vag5.asp?subm=%CF%EE%E8%F1%EA&btsnr=083-00&cid=110

You'll probably have to copy and paste the whole link into your address bar........not all of the link has highlighted.
