Another badge removal thread

Right, I went to take the Golf_GL badge off, and this time, I heated it with a heat gun then lifted it off, but instead of the sticky stuff coming off the car it came off the badge and is stuck to the car. How do I remove that without scratching?

use autoglym tar remover......much less harsh to the paint  :wink:

I used a whole bottle when I took the roof decal off.

Just don't use a screw drivers lol! I used kitchen roll, window cleaner and lots of elbow grease ;)

Lol. I saw that thread, I was specifically asking for the tar crap.

I used a scraper. I know you are all like WTF OMG now, but I didn't touch the paintwork, just pryed at the edge and went along with the heatgun and it lifted.

I'll try some wite spirit if not I'll get some tar remover.

most of these will get it off, if it's truely stubbourn look for a product called Goo Gone - mainly an american product but will get rid of everything. smells nice too.

Unfortunately, either me or the previous owner damaged the paintwork under the badges.

I say the previous owner because I'm not sure the badges were standard - and if the previous owner had removed the standard ones, damaging the paintwork, then put on new ones (makes sense to me  :laugh: )

I'll be sanding back and spraying the area where the badges were - it's quite a small area so will be easy to do.

Will put some pics on here when it's done - just have to wait for a dry and wind-free day now . . .  :rolleyes:

if you struggle, get a rubber wheel attachment for an angle grinder. have to do this sort of thing in work sometimes, although most of the time we use isopropanol. glue remover is good for removing glue (lol) never tried it on tar stuff. i used white spirit to remove slightly wet sikaflex when i put my spoiler on. it worked fine.

you should have removed it properly in the first place you numpty! :laugh:

is it a really strong double sided tape or actual sealant/glue type thing?
