headgasket could take another 100k miles to go.....save your money, be wise and do the 2l bottom end now. you will see a much much bigger gain from a 2l bottom end rather than a cam.

can choice is personal preferance at end of day,    bigger engines won't go as lumpy so can have bumpyer cam.   266 deg cams are pritty tame  a bit to tame imo but due to dailyness  a 285 may be a bit much so 272 276  deg shoudl be optimal
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

put linky up so can have look at specs of it

the degrees is only a very rough guide,  and manuacturess are rather flexibe with when they start measureing.    266  and 270 can happily mean the same thing,   so can 272  276 and 277.       there is no offical point you star measureing,   i think a 27-  would work well for you.

a 266  like the kent gs2h you don't even notice is there but the engine will rev a bit more freely.  27- has a bit more of  a cammed feel but dosent cause any issues
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

newman 268 or 272.both circa £150 from pw motorsport. my 268 is just about spot on. picks up nice and early and revs cleanly to 6k

So the 2.0 bottom end gives gains of about 15bhp?
