Test drove an 09 Pirrelli GTi! URF!!!
« on: 08 March 2009, 20:19 »
My, my, what a car, wasnt too keen on the seat design to be honest but performance was pant wettingly good! Also tested a GT Sport TDI170 which was very neat too! The big question is this, with a budget of 10- 12k do i get a  standard GTi or a GT Sport TDI 170??? Both seem to be affordable with less than 60k miles. HELP!!!

Would you really pick up a Pirelli for under 12k?? Im assuming you mean you will finance the rest??
All the Pirelli's Ive seen are from 19k upwards....

Unless you do lots of miles and pay for your own fuel its a no brainer.  GTI

If you go for the GT you'll regret it everytime you see a GTI.

for more bang per buck, a couple extra grand gets you the Edition 30.

It's the classic case of me wanting the GTi and the Mrs wanting a derv! lol
£12k really is the upper bracket of the price range im going for and it'd be a miracle to find an ed30 with that tag, ed30 styling is tastier than the pirelli imo though, defo ed30 ftw!
What sort of MPG should i expect realistically for a GTi? Almost all urban for me.

MPG in a purely urban environment would be between 25 and 30mpg. A diesel would be between 38 and 42 under similar circumstances.

As ub7rm says...every time you drive your diesel GT and a GTI passes in the other direction, you'll not be able to quell that feeling of ..."I wish I'd gone for the GTI"

£12k will get you a decent spec standard GTI in this economic climate, but if you wait another year, you'll be able to get an early Edition 30 instead

I'd say if they are short urban journeys you might strugle to even see that, low twenties more likely.  The 2.0TFSI engine is economical for what it is but more so for longish journeys / cruising.  Stop start traffic absolutely mullers fuel consumption.

Its not awful though. My commute to work involves going through the Blackwall tunnel and those of you from London will know what a nightmare it is. Easily 45 minutes of sitting in traffic. A total distance of 15 from my house and I can see 28MPG easily. It really is about how you drive it.

Also its got to be the GTI, you will love it. Get the GTI remapped and it will be quicker than the P / ED30 :D
