Water in rear lights
« on: 08 March 2009, 19:24 »
I have a set of rear lights that have water in, it looks like the water is in the plastic layers? As i took the back off (that holds the bulbs) and have shook it around and the water just moves about inside the plastic.

How can i get this out / seperate it?

I presume it got in with a broken seal somewhere, but i have turned it too all angles and cant get the water to come out!!!!

Strange.

I had this with my set man, only realized when I sent them off to kells to tint them lol! I think it is to do with a broken seal. I'm not kidding, mine was almost half full!

I dunno :P kells had to open them so I'm assuming it was done that way. If that's just the case, surely a opening and proper sealing of them will do the trick? There is no other possble way water can get in, unless there's a crack somewhere which 99.99% there isn't right?

Drill  small holes in em underneath where you cant see it, works for me.
Two 2mm holes in each side near the edges

Lights seem to suck in water when cooling down, My old 760GLE used to fill up overnight if it rained hard (I had a thing for Volvos once :embarassed:)

lets all get blue lenses if they seal better!!  :lipsrsealed:

on a more serious note.....you can buy the seals from vw for about £8 a side!! but I have cleaned mine up (washing up liquid and gently clean the gunk etc) and a good dry out should make them more flexible (and sealable..It can be good to add some petrolium jelly type stuff to soften them further)
