Too Much?
« on: 13 July 2004, 21:32 »
Do think the prices being asked for cars on here are high.

Son-in-law has just bought a 16v Corrado M reg for ?2100.00 - o.k. the mileage is high but its only had two owners and looks good.

My 16v Golf was ?2900.00 18 months ago had 98k on the clock.

Time to be realistic - no matter how much you've spent or what ya done - a car is only worth what somebody is willing to pay hard cash for.

My golf was pretty cheap - I paid 400 quid for it 2 years ago.

No Rust (respray - result!),121k, tho the only drawback was that it had no history  :-\

In my personal opinion, if the cars really are A1, then paying ?3k for a mint valver is par for the course, as finding a mint, straight one with full history and non-glaltic mileage is becoming harder and harder.

However, where I do agree with what you're saying is when people are asking top dollar for a car that doesn't fit the bill! Just because the doors aren't rusting off and the head gasket hasn't gone, it doesn't make the car a minter!

Take that G60 Corrada thats been around for more than a month. I'm sorry but just because its got a supercharged engine its still a Corrado. It aint a collectors car yet despite what Clarkson said.

I think that inflated prices go hand in hand with inflated ego's

I agree wiv S11eps, if I wanted a fully documented minter, I wouldve been happy to pay up to 3-4k at the time.

Tho occasionally, minters come up cheap (I had a mint 1982 mk1 gls with all the bills and stuff, for 700 quid).

The trick is not to sell it once you've got it  :-\ :'(

Like when i got mine coz i wanted a 5 door with air-con i was expecting to pay ?3k to ?4500. was only by chance after we had looked at 3 crap overpriced ones S i L didnt set the money limits and this one came out at ?2999.00

I wouldnt say it was totally mint but not far off for a 7 year old car.

And yes i like it so i am gonna keep it.
