Well left for work thursday afternoon for 105 mile drive to work (swindon-enfield-n/london)in my 1.8T AUM GTi got onto the M4 went to excellerate out of the 50mph limited roadworks and there was a muffled bang from the engine bay and the management light came on and started flashing .......1st impressions were MAF as it was just complete loss of power, but then the sound of a flat four scoobie started to emerge .......straight away COILPACK!!!!!, had to nurse it to work or i would have lost loads of £££££ so eventualy got it to enfield on time to start my shift, only got 30mpg average for the whole journey (normally 38-40mpg)..........anyway at 3.15am called the AA saying i knew what the problem was and would like towing back but they said we have to send a tech out to confirm the issue and go from there...not an issue so at 4am the AA turn up.......out gets a spitting image of my ex's dad   , who asks what the problem is i said defo coilpack and rightly so he diagnoses coilpack failure on cyl 2........he had 3 with him but sadly didnt fit so says he'll sort recovery for me for between 7am- (when i finish work) and 7.30am...7.25am get a call AA turn up in a transit connekt van NO LOWRIDER that i was expecting!!!! he said uve got a coilpack failure correct!!! i was like yeah but its been diagnosed and i need transporting home and the guy was like no need mate got a coilpack here for ya ...........he put it on his diagnostic computer thru up 3 errors
1.COILPACK ERROR CODE
2.FAILURE AT CYL 02
3.MISFIRE AND OVERFUELING
fitted new coilpack car ran sweet.....he cleared all error codes (saving me a few ££££ as havent a code reader yet)
then came the good bit he said it'll cost you £39.14 for the coilpack which was a genuine bosch part......
i was like to be honest mate i can get 1 from GSF for £20 and VW for £33 (not having a clue how much they were as wanted towed back to get a genuine part!!thought about £40ish) and he said if i do it for £20 will u be happy with that!!!as it'll save us the time and money transporting you all the way to swindon/and ur time as it;ll prob take 3hrs+ as ull be relayed at chievely services on the M4/A34 .............i was like mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ok   ...so he gave me a £19.14 discount fitted it all in etc double checked fault codes which were 100% clear and let me get on my way............and wow what a difference the car feels superb now..
i got home rang up the following for some coilpack prices.....
1. GSF...about £27ish+vat..not bosch!
2. EUROCARPARTS.£35ish+vat!!!!genuine bosch tho!
3. VW £30.66 inc vat (got a feeling thats wrong tho?? and didnt have any til mon!!!which is no good!!
so i saved myself quite a few ££££ plus got the codes reset and to top it of got 40.9mpg average going home  ...........THOSE AA ARE VERY NICE MEN

Dunno, tis an AGU mind.

Problem is I don't want to start wasting money replacing parts to find out what the problem is.
