a few things after speaking with the garage

Stink - have you noticed any change in the way the car drives going round corners with the front anti roll bar bushes knocking? Think i have a similar problem on mine but unsure it its these that have gone.

tbh until i get them changed wont be able to tell 

and looks like ill need a new steerign rack as well as thats the only thing the garage could advise would be giving the play i have in my steering mega gay!

what mileage is on your car mate?? 45K or so?? i'd be playing holy hell with VW as surely thats well short of fair wear and tear! have you got FSH??

well the car has just gone over 43k its got a fsh all but one yr which was the first yr I had it and my mate mehanic mate did the service for me as i was skinted!

the only thing i can think of is I had a bump about 2 and half yrs ago, went in the back of someone at a RAB that could have caused soem dmg?? but there was no visible damage after it and has past all teh MOT's etc

Check your front wishbone bushes aswell. Mine were completly chuffed when i changed the whole arm last week but sailed through MOT's no prob's. Doing this has now sorted out my front end loads.

Also the steering rack can be tightened which most people aren't aware of. There is a nut under a cover which can be tightened. I had a sheet printed out off ukmkivs.net (think it was of ELSA?) but can't find it or the link now to where it is! Even VW didn't know it existed, they only knew of it on the mk3!

Have you looked at the track rods? I know most people changed the whole rod complete with new end as the rod itself (other end to track rod) is a common point to wear too!

well this is it, my mate had it up on his ramp checked the wishbones the lot and couldnt find anythign wrong, same as the garage today had it up on the ramp and checked everythign to do with the steering, my may tom dis say abot a bolt/nut that can come loose but  he checked that and it was fine

Mine should be going in next week to have a new steering rack fitted, got it checked today and its fooked

where did you source a new one from steve ebay?

am letting the garage do it, it should all be going on my warranty 
The best price I could find was £125 + £50 surcharge on ebay
