Whats this thudding?
« on: 05 March 2009, 13:22 »
My 1.8 MK3 made this deep muffled thudding noise from the wheel .. it would only do it at lower speeds, sounded very much like a rear wheel bearing, Kinda like a distant sub woofer going thud thud thud from under the car...  I guessed it was the wheel bearing but i have now put the alloys wheels from this car and put them on my diesel.. and now thats doing it!!!   Any ideas what it could be?   It doesnt always do it, and if it does... its always at lower speeds (10-30 mph)

some thing loose inside the tyre?? I have seen all sorts come out from fitted tryes!! (parts of old punture repairs or valves are quite common!!)

Well, they are only 15" wheels and they never used to do it,  and the other car they were on wasnt even lowerd,  so i can rule rubbing out,  I have checked my boot for imigrants and have asked them all to leave, and still it continues... so there could be somthing in the tyre, just odd it only happens at low speed and you can almost feel it through the car,  But i have just rememberd,  I had a serously buckled wheel which they balenced for me as good as they could, it never caused a problem or vibrations,  mabey i put this one on the rear not realising and its caused it... Hmm
