As a ‘New’be’ I haven’t said much, but when I saw the proposed ‘DUB TUG SQUAD’ tag for the Mk.3, connotations of Hip Hop and Gang Culture sprang to mind - I just had to vent my spleen! Thanks but no thanks, sorry for any offence – it’s probably my age, being a wrinkly!
If you’ve got it flaunt it – just like the big boys who drive those Italian red things.- Ferrari, Maserati, Alfas all have their little foibles; Prancing Horses, Tridents and Serpents, even the lowly Fiats are sporting Scorpions again – now that’s passion.
Having previously owned and driven all of the above (complete with wing embellishments) by far the most practical of all is my little 16v Mk.3 ‘Anni’ which wouldn’t part with and 33 ‘Cloverleaf’ in a reasonably close second place.
Cast off the Teutonic austere mantel (even BM’s had ‘Bavaria’s’ and ‘Alpina’s’ and Mercs are in bed with Big Mc) and inject a bit of Passion – take clues from the VW Motorsport and Wolfsburg inspired era. A badge for today with reflections of a proud heritage and an inspirational R32 style future - why should they have all the fun? Stick it on the wing, tailgate inside or out - etched, coloured, sweatshirt, ‘T’ shirt – whatever/wherever it doesn’t really matter!
The illustration shows a ‘first stab’ on the wing of a MK.VI only because it’s the only side on wing pic. I could lay my hands on a short notice, retrospective thanks to ‘VWKev’ for the use of his nearside wing. It would of course read Mk. III in the flesh. Rant over now back to the closet - What do you think?
