Common problems?

Im going to be looking at a 1991 1.6 on Saturday, iv had a mechanic give engine a going over and seems to be sounds only got 73,000 on clock, just wondered if there are any common body problems i should keep a look out for.

Yes mate.

*Rust on the front passenger scuttle where the wiper hole is for LHD cars
*Broken sunroofs or leaking, maybe both
*Sloppy gear changes due to worn bushes
*Battery tray and air filter tray rusty
*Siezed calipers, mainly rear
*sagging headlining at rear
*Rust on rear bootlid by jet hole
*Inoperative rear wiper
*Noisy blower on fan and sometimes only one speed working
*Damp carpets - door membranes/ sunroof or front footwell coming from engine bay

The obvious rust undr spats if they are present.

Not meaning to put you off at all because these are all things you get with older cars but are easily repairable, it makes it part of the fun!

Just a list so when you look you can barter with the price on these areas.

Id say

*caliper is one of the most annoying
*Rust can be dealt with pending on scale
*Fan is awkward

They are the main offenders to drop the price

Id say mainly it depends where it is, under the spats if not too serious can be cheap, the battery trays are more serious, as for the boot shouldnt be a problem, and with the wiper holes and the blank grommit just make sure its not letting water into the front of the car by the speaker on the dash and once again running down to the footwell
