My dad had a VR6 when I was still smaller. Loved the noise it made...

See im a bit torn here....

Its between the Mk2 16V... And the VR6.

MK2:

Weighs Less
Litter faster
Major Fun Factor
Cheaper - Leaves me about 1500 pounds to modify

VR6:

Newer
Lovely noise as I remember it
Little more modern (Who cares though??)
Expensive... Will use my whole budget to buy one.
Fun but not manic... A bit too composed.

The positives outweight the negatives for the MK2. What sort of mods can you do to a MK2?

Im really sorry for sounding like a complete retard... Still learning this "old" car stuff....

Should I be taking advice from the hairdresser....?  :lipsrsealed:

Just kidding bud. The MK3 being Sh*t seems to be the common trend on the forum. Not sure why (Apparently its slow and fat) but i think its nice...

But personally cannot justify a MK3 over a MK2.

If I was to post up a few ads would you guys mind like approving them? I know nothing about these cars....

Hello guys

Yup Russ you are right.... I do want one lol

Thanks for the link. Very useful. You guys are very kind

Here are a few links:

And obviously this ad is for the black MK2 (I like this the most)

Thats it... These are the only 16V available.... These cars are ultra rare here.

When I go see the actual car I will take that guide that was posted along. The nice thing about SA is the cars dont rust as much and are uaually in better condition...

Thanks everyone!

Mike

sorry forgot to mention if stripped out. doh! my bad.

but your right standard is 1000kg, stripped could go as low as 900kg-

Even ignoring the power-to-weight ratios, the Mk5 chassis is massively superior to the Mk2. Then you've got all the torque benefits. Then the far, far better aerodynamics (a huge factor post 70mph). Better brakes with ABS and cornering with the ESP-thingy.

I love my Mk2, but I am more than willing to accept that a Mk5 would bend a Mk2 16v over its knee, and spank it badly. Fact.

Yup, I'd have to agree, laser welded chassis etc. on the MK5 makes for a much faster ride. My sisters MK5 is sweet and feels real nice to drive, I love the eletro mechanical steering - its more responsive than my own!

Its like on fifth gear when they tested an E30 M3 with huge BHP, and then a modern day mildly-hot super mini, and they got almost exactley the same time round the track - its all about putting the power down and grip around the corners. Its on youtube somewhere.

Micsta, the only thing that i would be concerned about in your shoes is if like you say mk2's are rare then what about availability of parts? big factor as you will always be fixing something!
