What makes you think its not a GTI? Like Vix says - it will state it on the log book if it is.

Yes well it dont !But wot makes it even worse is that i questioned the guy bout it n he ensured me it was!Im well peed off!contated dvla today so well c wot happens!

tis a 1.8.but i reckon sumthin has gone a bit skew-whiff wen it was imported n converted! Ive so got a bad feelin bout this-hence me contactin dvla! :'(

Dinx, if you go on confused.com and look to get an insurance quote, you can put in your registration number of your car or the car you might be buying for example, and it will tell you what the car should be etc. Just don't do what I did and put in the wrong number when the registration I put in came up as a Polo   Luckily it was my typo  :-[

if the engine plate on the slam pannel starts with dx then it would of definatly had a 1.8i engine in it.
i was talking to some one yesterday who said the cabrio's got baged gti mostly for uk so not many foreign 1.8's got the gti badge
