Yup, Magnex are very good quality exhausts.  Their parent company also made the Micron brand of exhausts for motorbikes, and they were extremely highly regarded.  OK, if you want to be really picky, they arn't quite up to the stratmospheric standards of quality which Milltek have - but with the Magnex, you arn't paying at stratmospheric price either.

I owned a Magnex on a previous car for about 6 years, and it was purfect.  Well made, properly aligned, had a mature deep sound, and was actually more 'subtle' than most others available.

Magnex you just relate to Mr Fat Boy in his corsa stylie, loud and anti social!!.

Perhaps they have improved, and ive had no experiance with this system.

Wonder what the same system brand new retails for?

I'm sorry, but that just isn't the case.  Magnex were never marketed at that kind of target market, and definately did NOT have fat end pipes.  And they most definately were NOT loud or anti social.  For most Magnexes (but I specifically exclude the one for a GTI), then I would actually state they are slightly quieter than a comparable Milly.

Perhaps they have improved, and ive had no experiance with this system.

The parent company actually went bust, which is genuinely sad, because their Micron motorbike zorsts really were very technically advanced, and very highly regarded.  But your lack of experience doesn't exactly help though!

I dunno exactly, but most Magnex cat backs were around the 280-320 notes - so quite a bit cheaper than the Milly equivalents.

I know there's a guy over here with one but he doesn't live near me so I haven't heard it. He recommends it though.
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

ok, not very many people on here have gone Magnex route, but loads have gone Milltek.

Ask yourself why if its cheaper, why hasnt it been more popular??.What sorta warranty is offered with it? lifetime ownership of the car like Milltek??

Perhaps means you may get what you pay for??? or is it end of line Exhaust with hefty discount.

Perhaps Youtube it and see if you can find any sound clips from there .

I just think it is just that most peeps associate Millys with VAG cars.  Perhaps if we were on a F0rd, Renault or Honda forum, then it might be more equal!  :undecided:

Re the warranty, well they used to have a no quibble lifetime warranty - but because the maker has gone down the pan, that might be a bit of a prob now.  However, Magnex really are way up there in terms of build quality, materials, fit and finish, and sound too.  OK, Magnex never offered res and non-res versions, and I can't really remember if they did any high flow sports cats either, but strictly comparing a cat back system from Magnex and Milly - there is very little difference in quality.  OK, they do 'look' slightly different - but then the same could be said regarding big brakes from AP or Brembo - both excellent set-ups, but just subtle differences in styling.

Re the prices - well yes, the Magnex are now priced because they are 'end of line'.  But whilst I also very highly rate Milly stuff, I do have to state that it is very highly priced - maybe even over-priced.  But then, as said, Milly offer far more versions for the one car compared to Magnex, so Milly also have to recoup their R&D costs across their entire range.

Re the sound clips - I actually think there was a similar thread a while back with some youtube clips of the Magnex - perhaps you are handy with the search.

I had a full magnex on a 1.9 205 GTI i used to own (ahh the memories.............)

I had to remove the first example they sent, it was too boomy and uncomfortable to live with.  They sent another, and that was so much better.

I guess the first one was their single boxed Non-res version.  The quality was good, and their cust care(not that it matters now) was top notch.

The original exhaust was sold to a Max power loving young lad, and he loved it.  He lived in the next village, and you could hear hin coming, it was like a B52 bomber going past!
