Phew................Just legged to one of the offices next door where a pal has a MK5GTI. It has hals not xenons but the fitting of the lights is like mine. Thank F*#K.

He had it new last Feb, so I know its fine.

There is an Ed30 on the forecourt of the local dealers which I will check on the way home.

Its hard to say really.  A minor front end bump isn't really a big issue, providing it has been correctly repaired using genuine VW bits, and been correctly rust-proofed.  And as for any minor mis-alignment following such repairs - well most 'insurance' repairs often don't get correctly aligned minor bits such as headlamps or even bonnets.  The insurance companies really do tighten the thumbscrews with bodyshops, and because alignments are fiddly and time consuming, they are often left less than perfect.

So if it is just a misaligned headlamp, I personally wouldn't be too bothered (but I would still get the dealer to correct it as part of the sale ).  However, if a door or tailgate were misaligned, then I'd definately walk away.

tough one.....
I just checked.......
1. all the wing fixings, all other bolts for spanner ware, markings & painting.
2. Stone chips are always a good sign.
3. suspension fittings
4. markings on lights
5. any variations in swirling on any panels.
6. Markings on glass is worth checking as well.
7. Any over spray on door shuts or rubs
8. wheel arch liners for signs of grief.

Also your local VW dealer can run a check on the car for history.

hope that helps mate

Paul

Thanks Guys, I did all of these checks yesterday as well as calling VW and it all checked out perfectly. I was just hoping there was a general issue with the lights. :undecided:

I also went to a dealer today and checked a variety of golfs with varying results..... pretty much all were different to the others. Goes to show all VW's aren't created using the same mould  :nerd:
