ive been hearing that i would get 39 mpg and 300 miles per tank for an r32 mk5,,,,,, is this dreaming.

Well if you drive it very, VERY carefully, on long motorway drives, then maybe.  But that isnt really the 'spirt' of an R32.  But when you start to give an R32 some beans, then its fuel consumption does get quite scary - whenever I have driven one, it can match my RS4 which is a 1.8 tonne 4.2 litre V8.

If economy really is a concern, then you really need to be looking at the GTI.  The FSI really does give excellent fuel economy when driven carefully, and even when 'pressing on', doesn't drop no where near as bad as an R32 at similar pace.  And because the exhaust note on the R32 is sooooo adictive, you will definately want to be pressing the loud pedal.

An R32 is 1600 kg - not far off!

What is the bhp of the v8 in the rs4? i've got 300bhp on my ABZ lump, and thats an old unit.
I would of thought the rs4 would be way faster than an R32.

Quoted 414bhp.. pretty sure he meant it matched the fuel economy though, not speed. RS4 would dust an R32 quite easily.

Yes you can get decent mpg from the R32 if you drive everywhere like a granny. The other night I was VERY low on fuel and just crawled along behind a 1.2 corsa most of the 40 mile journey home.. I managed to average 34mpg. The R32 isn't really a car to be looking at if you're looking for fuel economy.. because it's far too much fun to drive it quick. Although if you plan to add things like a remap and exhaust to the GTI then the same applies, particularly with an Edition30 GTI with the larger turbo.
