Mk7 details in Autoexpress
« on: 01 March 2009, 15:57 »
This weeks Autoexpress had pictures of the Mk7 Golf.
Lighter, smaller and stronger than the Mk5/6.
With some great engine options.
On sale two years earlier than anticipated.

Not sure why they bothered with the Mk6.
Currently digging a bunker.

The mk6 was launched as the mk5 was too expensive for Vw to make and they needed to cut costs.

Exactly, the Mk6 had to be launched because the quality of the Mk5 was not up to scratch internally plus as stated it cost to much to build.

That Autoexpress artical doesn't mention anything "quoted from VW" so I would take that with a pinch of salt. The Mk6 should be seen as a facelifted Mk5 rather than a new model. In fact the Mk6 is what the Mk5 should of been from day one.

I thought the Mk6 was launched because the build time of the Mk5 was 60 hours compared to the Focus taking 17

It might look nicer, but I do wonder what corners are cut below the surface if they can get the build time down to 20 hours for the Mk6.
