Whats needed?
« on: 28 February 2009, 19:54 »
Ive bought a 2001 1.8T AUM standerd at the moment, just bought a TIP 007 next, what do i need before a stage 2 remap? What difference is there between the stage 1 and 2? Also is it right to think its best to do as much of the moddifacations before the re-map?

Hello,

For spec 2 remapping you want to get the air & gases to flow better, spec2 remapping will involve more boost more and fuel with the unwanted by product of added heat. Fitting a sports cat or de-cat will allow the turbo to spool quicker and reduce your exhaust gases temps, which will allow us to run higher boost across the whole band. You also need to be looking to getting the intake air in quicker, smoother and cooler. good induction kit, heat soak prevention, turbo intake pipes, upgrade intercooler etc...

Spec1 will see 210bhp all day long on a good running AUM lump, Spec2 will see around 225+bhp all depending on the above.  If you try and remap a car with spec2 software without mods the egts will go too high which will make the ecu dump more fuel to cool things down and compromise the power in a big way. :embarassed:

IMO get the spec1 210bhp remap and make sure your car is running 100% spot on, then start to complimnet the spec1 with a sports cat, fmic, induction kit etc, then pay a small amount to upgrade the map to the r-tech spec2 remap.  (which shoukd be around £100-£125)

Nick
