Boot problems
« on: 27 February 2009, 20:40 »
I'm having problems with 2004 mark 5 golf boot.
The boot wont open, dash warning light indicating bulb needs changed comes on, with the boot fog and reverse lights not working, and window wiper on boot not working but the window washer system still works.  Checked bulbs and the wiring on the boot seems ok.  After opening the boot from the inside and then closing the boot it stoped this problem (only while car switched off) and worked fine for a while but keeps comming back after a few days, same problems as mentioned above, espically if you try to open the boot with the engine running.  its weird not sure why it does this, anyone come across this problem?

Obvious question, have you checked all the fuses - in both the fusebox under the panel on the end of the dash, and also the 'E-box' fusebox next to the battery under the bonnet?

Regarding the boot not being able to be opened when the engine is running - well there may be a coding error - because the boot has an electronic 'interlock' which prevents the boot being opened when the vehicle roadspeed exceeds 5mph.  Maybe there is a complete boot interlock even when the engine is running for other countries?  :undecided:

Do you have the dreadded water leak in the boot?  Lift your boot carpet and check the bottom of the spare wheel well.  Maybe some water has got into the rear CAN slave unit?

Oh, and welcome to the forum.
