new car but no warranty
« on: 25 February 2009, 18:42 »
Has anyone bought an import GTI and had a problem getting full UK warranty?

Initially my local stealer said all they need is the VIM number which i gave them in order to get it registered on VW UK.

They are now saying that they need the original service manual which annoyingly was not provided with the car (i was supplied with a new one).

Basically that the car is not covered even though i can prove when the car was bought etc

I will clarify this from VW UK in the morning but has anyone got any advice or experienced a similar thing?

Seems bonkers to me

phone VW head office. Dealers are kn0bs! That way you get the correct information and with a little push your dealer will actually do as YOU want them to do rather than what they feel like doing on any given day

hmm, normally they ask for your V5 and the sticker at the front of your service book.

That said, where did you buy it from as some importers (no names mentioned) have stock on their books that are older than two years hence no VW warranty.

Then you have 2 years :-) check the vin number easily visible on the car it will have a digit in the (10th?) position of 8 if it's 2008. Search here for vin numbers and MY (model years).

Doesn't matter when it was actually registered in the UK, the VW warranty period starts from the day the car is PDIed at the foreign dealer.

Now you begin to understand why you didn't get the owners manual?

Yes i understand that. The car was manufactured in 2008 and the VIN number indicates this as well (thanks no golf clubs btw)

What am I missing here..ok the car may be a model year 2008 but could still have been manufactured  in 2007 from say July? If warranty starts from pdi date then assuming a little delay you could still worst case have say 6 months warranty left! Who says no warranty? Get pdi date and talk to vw away from Motorpoint they may be compromising eu law and your statutory rights.
