Hi, first post here. Thought I'd just say Hi.
Just bought my Grandad's Mkll Golf.
He'd owned it from new so I said I'd definatly buy it from him when he gave up driving. He's passed away now so I said to the Executers of his estate that I'd still like to buy the car. They offered it to me for £250.
I'd convinced myself it was a 'Driver', cus it has 4 headlamps. Was trying to guess if it was the 1.6 or 1.8 model.
Imagine my suprise (dismay) when I read '1272cc' on the V5!
It's a 5 door 1991 'Ryder'! I'm guessing this is a run-out model as they stopped making Mkll's in 1992?
Still - The car is solid & sailed tru it's MOT after a basic service.
I plan to keep it pretty standard - It just needs a few scratches sotted & the bottom of a door repaired.
I want to keep the car long term. Lots of people keep the GTi's & G60's etc, so I thought it would be nice to save a more basic model to take to classic car shows in 20 years.
The car is unbelievably slow - I read it only has 55Hp?! Was going to replace the HT leads with fresh ones - any other suggestions how to free up what little power the engine does produce?
The car has no stereo so I'd like to put in a period VW radio/cassette player. Anyone know what type would have been fitted?
