Detailing!?!? WTF!?
« on: 24 February 2009, 21:08 »
Hi chaps, I must admit, a friend of mine, mentioned "detailing" a long while ago to me, and i thought it sounded really really really really really really .........................

really really sad.

And after a free session at his expense and hard work... using his kit... i was impresses! (isn't clay awesome!)
Moving swiftly on... the freind in question seems to have an aweful lot of products by an aweful lot of different people.... so i was looking at this kit.....

www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/complete-detailing-kits/sonus-perfect-shine-kit/prod_365.html

on the assumption that the products are made to compliment each other.... Any comments... anyone used this gear before... any good?
and other than whats in the kit.. am i likely to need anything else? I'm just going to get myself two clear buckets... so i can see whats going on! :P

cheers guys!

The sonus polishes in that kit (which make up a sizeable part of the overall cost) are really intended for use with a machine-polisher although you can apply them by hand but I bet you would need arms like popeye.

This is a good kit:  http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/complete-detailing-kits/collinite-476s-carlack-kit/prod_408.html

If you team that up with some sonus green clay and the cheapest quick detailer you can find to use as lube (I use poorboys spray and gloss), followed by Autoglym Super Resin Polish, you'll be laughing.

The Autoglym polish is no joke - it came out tops in a hand-polish test done on www.detailingworld.co.uk, and will be a joy to use compared to the sonus.

I must thank you for your tips, would be a cheaper option and same sort of results... i must admit my friend used super resin polish and he says that it's pretty well bullet proof.... I think i'll go for that! how long does a typical detail take.... i'm talking body work only....

I'd buy alternatives myself.
As stated the Sonus stuff you probably wont use, the cloths you will, Klasse you will, clay you will, R222 wax is not very durable so you'll wise you hadnt used it etc etc!
To start try a basic wash, clay and cleanse routine then top off with the SRP you mention and see how you find it all. You may hate the whole process or you may end up loving it.
Typically I'd say 1st attempt you'll not get a lot of change out of 7hrs!
Between me 1st starting and present day my average times per car have reduced by 3hrs  but that is interior and exterior.

Takes me about 4 or 5 hours ish if I do a full clay, polish and wax.

Note that SRP offers almost nill protection and should be covered with a decent wax.

Sorry Envy, my post wasn't a reply to your post (god knows I know less about detailing than you've probably forgotten), it was in reply to this:

...I was concerned about the "bullet proof" comment - didn't want the OP to think SRP was good for everything.
