I need Tips for buying TDi 130

Woohoo!!

I'm trying to get the wife to trade in her 206GTi, which I think is becoming a death trap, for a TDi 130. I've nearly convinced her, so close!!!  

She does alot of miles and needs something thats built proper!

What should I be looking for other that the usual??

Any pointers would be much appreciated guys, cos if her 206 dies whilst tanking it on the motorway one more time she might not be so lucky

Don't know a great deal about the diesels, but that looks like a nice example, fairly priced too.
Apart from the usual things you check when buying a new car, check in the history to see if its had the window regulators replaced. The nasty little plastic clips break on those and your window disappears into the door (just ask kniterider). VW will give you a 50% discount on the labour to repair these as it's a VERY common fault. Not common enough for them to do a recall though apparently...
MAF sensor failure seems to be an increasingly common fault too, but thats not a huge problem.

Finally, if he still has it, buy ant-gti's tuning box to stick on the car when you're driving it, that'll put a smile on ya face.

Can't stretch the budget anywhere near yours Omar but I'm hoping to pick up a 1998/99 TDI 110 for around the ?5K mark. Seem to be quite a few about. I've been talking to a few people about them and I agree about the MAF sensor. My Dads Audi A6 2.5 TDI had a serious almost dangerous flat spot in 2nd and the overall performance was very unimpressive.........changing the MAF totally transformed the car

Electric window switches appear to be another common problem so make sure they all work, especially if like me, you're after a 5 door model.

Check the rear wash/wipe squirts out a decent jet of water, or you may find its pishing back in the tailgate and buggering up alarm components.

Another handy hint to check if your dual mass flywheel is on its way out, which you don't want 'cause they aint cheap(i think theyre fitted to the diesels too ?).

With the engine running, open the drivers door to the second lock and place your index finger on the top of the door. If you feel an uneven vibrating (bit like a washing machine i suppose) then walk away or ask for ?1000 to be knocked off the asking price.

  cheers tophuh, I'll definately check that then..........last thing I need is to sell my perfectly good Audi and buy into problems like that!
