Dinx, if you're going to get a new hood deffo get a mohair one, yes they are harder to clean but I think they look better and they are hardwearing, although I reckon I'll have to replace mine in the next 12 - 18 months, even so I think it's still the original so it's lasted 13 years  :)

P.S. Getting bird shat off it can be a b1tch if you leave it there for long enough.  :(

I've just brought a Mohair hood from autohoods and installed it myself today. Its top quality for the price. It's worth replacing all the cables as well while putting the new hood on.

The main area of concern I had doing this myself was cutting the hole out for the back window...worked out alright though.  Check out my gallery shortly and your see pictures of my car with new hood. Worth every penny spent - ?280 - http://www.autohoods.co.uk

the thick "quilt" part of the roof is for thermal insulation as far as i can tell.
had a thought today to remove wind noise from the leading edge of the roof perhaps a wind deflector could be put there similar to the one wich some sliding roofs had on them. if it was assembled so the leading edge was under the windscreen rubber then wind noise could be eliminated from the front.

That is the same place I was looking at to swap my hood, does it come with a new frame and everything?

No I just brought cloth outside and inside with new cables and installed onto my frame on the car. Autohood do install the new hoods as well for an extra ?100 +VAT. I only did it myself as I've done them before and I hate paying extra for work I can do myself. :)
