My 16v isn't broken.
« on: 23 February 2009, 15:19 »
Well I signed up about a month ago with the aim of starting to post regularly. Since then I have been very busy. I basically started this thread to give people something other than "My car is chuffing broke how do I fix it" to read.

Any way I am 21 years old and ever since I was a nipper have always loved cars. Through my child hood and into my teens I always loved mk2 Golfs no idea why I had never sat in one and never driven one (obviously). Since then I have learnt to drive and got to the stage where a GTi is a reality. I was all set to buy a nice car last year when for some insane reason I decided to get married.

In January I started looking for a GTi I wasn't really bothered which one as you can't really afford to be picky. Anyhow after looking at a couple of sh!tters I came across a 16v on the Pistonheads website. It was dark and snowing when I went to look at it and I instantly fell for it. It had lots of little problems and no service history. It drove home perfectly and after leaving it standing on my drive for a week it was time to drive it and see what was what. Well it was broken wouldn't start. For the last two months me and my dad have been fixing it up getting it ready for daily use. After many frustrating yet ultimately rewarding hours my car is now working well.

Yesterday was the first chance I have really had to see what it can do. I took it to some roads I know locally and had a whale of a time. Today at work I can't stop looking out of the window and smiling at it. I know it won't always be smiles but the last few days of enjoyment have given me the bug and I don't think I'll ever shake it.

I could write more but I don't want to bore you all to death.

Thanks for reading

Im in a similar situation.
My 16v needs work done before its ready to be on road. Its really frustrating but at the same time I do enjoy working on it.
I hope I feel the same way you do once its finished, im sure I will because the wait is killing me!!!!!

I only go that way after work sometimes and I work so close the car isn't warmed up by the time I get there. Have you got a figure I should be aiming for if I ever get the chance

Think general rule of thumb is if it does 100mph by the parking sign on the way up you've got a pretty rapid car, or so I've been told, never done it myself
