I think the original poster has bitten off a big fat chunk of too-much-in-your-mouth-to-even-think-about-chewing-on-it.

Doesn't matter what the gearbox is, or what the loom is.  There's a bucketload of custom fabricated parts you're going to need.

thats just spooiling the suprise,  tho there is another one comeing up,    020 syncro boxes  have clearance issues on 2ltr motors,  the other 2.0 16v lumps dont fit without adjustment  so dought the ABF will even bolt up to the box unless  you do frountline style block mods.

the proper treat is the exhaust tho.   that'll be a mare  esp if left rod change
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

thats good news then, you're well on your way to getting it going
hopefully with all them diagrams and stuff you'll be able to get it sorted one way or another, theres plenty help to be found on here if you run into any other problems!

In your position I'd use the ABF managment since its all to hand, and its just the better way to go. k-jet on an abf is never going to be perfect as its designed for a different engine!  I'd also 90spec the thing, its just the syncro part of the loom I'm not sure about. I have a rallye 90spec wiring diagram but its all in foreign which makes it tricky to figure out, and I'm not sure if its the same as on a normal syncro anyway.  Dan is your man for this :)

well your on the easy bit now.

easyest way is to find a mk3 gti loom, it's not intergrated well at least the eraly ones arnt  and it fits into the bay easy as it's the right shape then all you have to do is swap plugs and add a couple of relays,     if get keen i'll go and look at mine later and see what goes where on the syncro bit of the loom

id be interested to know which loom (engine or lighting) the syncro bits come out of, and what if anything actually runs all the way to the fusebox :)
that and if there is anything electrical on the rear diff or is it vac only?

ummm  had mine out to have a look when building it.

the reverse light switch on gearbox if diffrent ( rather a lot as well ),  some of the syncro specific loom is in the enigne loom so you have to stri that back as well.

then this bit of loom goes from fuse box to rear diff whicth also gets vaccume thought i had some piccys of it  but can't find the one i'm after.
