If my warranty was out I'd be going for this....but I said I'd wait until it's ended before I do any kind of mod.  Shame

pah, warranty!  You'll be ok, they just wont cover you for the turbo etc.  Rest of the car is ok which is what likely to go wrong anyway.

This thread is going to cost me money... now talking to JKM about Stage 1... only 2-weeks to make up my mind...

....JKM are a good tuning agent to use - Very knowledgeable about everything 2.0T FSI and very caring and very good aftersales customer care. Very honest too.

You wanna come to this? : - [You don't have to go on the rollers] - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=104066.0

Hi Robin,

Many thanks for the invite. I would come, but Tim @ Envy Valeting is giving my car a full detail (inside & out) all day on the 7th. FYI... Two buddies at work went down to a Briskoda dyno day at JKM just a couple of weeks ago and had a blast, both their vRS’ made more power than stock, so they were chuffed. They also met vRStu while they were there...

A question to you remapped manual ED30 boyz. There is a thread knocking about about potential slipping clutches on cars with REVO stage 1 & Bluefins. I won’t be drag racing or going on track days... should I be concerned. I don’t need the hassle of clutch replacement on a 1-yr old car. Also considering the Powerflex Torque Arm Insert... seems it tames the wheel hop (tramp), is this true?

I value your thoughts... Hotrod

....I can't advise about remapped Ed30's. But they have exactly the same gearboxes and clutches as the GTI's as far as I know.

All the Torque Arm insert will do is better protect your exhaust mounts and slightly reduce wheel hop but not cure it totally - You need more extensive mods like coilover suspension, Whiteline Anti-lift kit and Quaife ATB diff to cure it more completely. At least this has been my experience and none more so than today when checking if my car has Launch Control - It doesn't! But there wasn't a trace of judder or hop in the attempt as would be expected with an unmodified FWD car.

Hotrod;

we've actually got a cupra K1 running stage2+ and we've not had any issues with clutch slip and that's running an honest 355 (no intake atm so a little down on power) and that car is a daily driver and has been getting a fair amount of use from us in the office :)

you'd be surprised how much difference a torque are insert makes the the way the car feels so go for it!

....I'm not so convinced: I've read an equal number of posts on various forums which say the difference is minimal to that it makes a big difference. I think placebo plays a part. It's defo worth doing imo but I personally wouldn't expect huge changes. It most definitely helps reduce but not 100% cure IMO. But my failing KoniFSD's may have been a factor.

Definitely go for it - Every little bit helps. Milltek give them out free with their exhausts btw. Makes an expensive torque arm insert!

I think I'm right in saying that most of the Ed30's with clutch issues have been hammered up the quarter-mile a few times.

Torque arm inserts - big improvement on a manual, not so much on DSG (since the gearbox mount doesn't get loaded/unloaded in the same fashion as a manual transmission)
Any increase in torque is going to kill your clutch quicker, a fact that anyone with/considering a remap just has to accept. Your driving style will play the biggest part in the life expectancy of your clutch.

Good point, topher - I'd forgotten about the DSG/Manual differences (what do you expect from someone eligible for a free bus pass!).

Something I like about the DSG is that I believe it's more protective of the clutches.
