Trying to put my rear door back together
« on: 21 February 2009, 22:34 »
I took my off side rear door apart to replace the lock module and while installing the new lock module I seem to have knocked off a clip which forms part of the door handle on the inside. I'm following a haynes book but it doesn't mention this bit because it's not meant to come out. I reckon I can see where it's supposed to go back in but it doesn't want to hold in place.

First I'll try and explain the bit I'm talking about with some pictures, unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me and I have to store the car somewhere else while it's being fixed so I've made and borrowed a few pictures I could find. It's a front door but hopefully you get the idea :

The part which has come off is a "C" shaped piece of metal which I guess is involved in tightening up the handle blank. It doesn't appear to be broken and I can't find any other bits which might have gone with it.

I've tried putting it back in where I think it should go and it seems to fit but is so loose it just falls off. I've tried making the bottom of the screw interlock with the ridges in the "C" shaped thing but it's still too loose and won't tighten up so I must be missing something.

Does anyone have any idea of what I'm doing wrong here? or does anyone have a complete diagram of this part of the door which show's how this part fits back in?

Thank you!
