No Start No Spark
« on: 21 February 2009, 18:21 »
Hello,
Need some advice. I can do the basics and now a bit stuck. This is the 2.0 8v gti Aug 97 mk3 Engine code AGG

Car is turning over fine but is producing no spark. I replaced the ignition coil but still no spark. Have tested for a spark directly at the coil but not one there either. Have also tested there is voltage going to it which there is on one of the 3 wires approx 10v(battery prob a bit flat) should be 12v

Current train of through is the hall sender next inline? Any ideas or is this is a common issue I dont know about :D

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Robbie

And it couldnt be the inbuilt immobiliser could it? with the chipped key and all. I do have a toad immob/alarm on too but im unsure how id go about ruling these two out

Generally immobilzers effect the fuel pump and the starter motor. I can't tell you for sure, but I doubt it's that.

Thanks that was just a niggle in my mind about the immobiliser.

Does anyone know if the hall sender would throw a code if faulty?

I am not 100% sure but I think your immobiliser is the problem.

The VW one or the after market? How could I test for this? A friend mentioned an immobiliser relay but not sure where that is(if its with fuses which one would it be)

I can get access to vagcom on monday

I assume the battery in the key has no effect on the VW immobiliser? because thats probably as flat as a fart! Clutching at straws at the min

Oh sorry misread your post. Could be your VW key, you haven't lost the little chip in it at all have you? Hasn't come apart lately at all?

No hasnt come apart that im aware of but have had 2 occassions where the car wouldnt start recently and the car would turn over faster than what it should and no spark.

This time its turning over normally and no spark though. Ill put vagcom on it monday

Ive done some reading and will also test ECU relay no 30 and the other possibility is the ignition switch. Hopefully not the crank sensor because thats a mental price!

Ok no fuel either so I think hall sender is out and pointing towards either ECU relay 30, VW Immobiliser, Ignition chip on barrel

Anyone know how to test relay 30? I have a voltage meter
