ED30 killer
« on: 21 February 2009, 18:18 »
Sounds silly but here goes:

The first car I fell in love with (after Knight Rider) was the mk4 golf gti. Even though I have an ED30, I still look at the MKIV with lust.

Soo......if I bought an anni 1.8T GTI, could I ever mod it to beat (or match) the ED30 on the flat as well as on the bends? Or is it just a pipe dream?

being brutally honest its a pipe dream unless you have thousands of pounds to spend

you need a KO4 conversion or possibly use a BAM engine to start with
suspension modifications
possibly a limited slip diff

and a few others i probably haven't thought of

I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

if you want a genuine ED30 killer.. forget the k04 ideas and go straight for the IHI vf22 or garrett gt28rs (or gt30 if you don't mind a bit of lag before your head gets punched into the headrest  )

jabbasport or jbs are probably the people to speak to if you just want to drop off the car as a pussycat and pick it back up as a beast.. but you can do it much much cheaper if you're prepared to source the parts yourself and find a smaller trusted garage to put it all together for you

why do people us the vf22 had one on my old scooby for a couple of weeks and had lots of lag
the vf23 was much better hardly any lag and strong through to the red line
also a good alternative is the td05 20g good for over 400 bhp on the impreza and not to much lag

Just in a straight line performnace shouldn't take much as far as I can work out. A mk4 GTI weights around 1230kgs so running remap/tip etc 220bhp a mk4 BHP PER TON is 180.85bhp/t
Where as a mk5 ED30 weights 1330kgs and 230bhp works out around 173 BHP PER TON

The cost of all the above, you may as well keep the ED30 and buy a Mk4 and have both.... And with the current prices you will probably get change!!!
