Got to Go
« on: 19 February 2009, 21:48 »
 Well the time has come to say farewell to you all. The GTi has to go due to extortionate Irish VRT tax laws here in Ireland. They are set on the emissions, 07 Golf 9,700 euros import tax compared to 5,500 for a BMW M Sport Diesel. So BMW here I come. I would like to say a big thanks to all who helped me with this car, which is quite possibly the best car I have ever had the pleasure to drive. I have been offered 11,750 pounds to swap for the BMW so as a final post if anyone is interested in the car PM me.
GTi with APR re map, 18” Monzas, Sat Nav, Grey Import but full UK spec. Phatnoise Hard Disc micic player with original drive and 80gig. If you can match the offer feel free. Car is mint and runs oh so well with and without the re map.
Once again thanks to all.....BMW don't have anything like this place, in fact this place sets the standard for Car Forums.

Sorry mate,
But as a former 1er owner, I would disagree.
There is an absolutely superb forum for the 1 series at www.babybmw.net

This forum is good, but the BMer one is also!

Of course, if you are going for a 3 series, I will wind my neck in.... :embarassed:

Sad times.

Good look with the sale of your beloved, and stick around the forum too, as it isn't actually compulsory to own a Golf, or even a GTI (cough Topher, cough Rhyso    ) to be a member here!

Sorry to hear man
Have to agree with you about Irish tax rates. I've been looking into getting a new Scirocco and the tax on the 2.0 TSI ! Ridiculous!
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

If you're a UK subject in Eire, can't you drive your UK car and have it insuranced under UK insurance?

BMW 320 d M Sport Coupe is the next car, 128 grams of sh!t from exhaust makes 16% of the cars value as tax as opposed to 190 grams of pure gold from the GTi = 30% Tax. Not looking forward to the first time you GTi owners will be swallowing my black pool of soot from the tail pipes tho

I will be back from time to time to see how your all getting on

Just gone the same route with the wifes GTI and picked up a 08 325D M Sport, no black smoke and the in gear acceleration is very rapid, you will definately enjoy the drive, they just steer so neutral
