hence me trying to compromise and do some research... ie bugging the hell out of you guys to try get the best i can for the money i got¬ :undecided:

again my thanks and apologies!

You'll get a good GTI for around £10k I reckon - especially in the current economic climate.
Ive been selling everything I have as well, well the extra stuff at least - including my much loved XPS notebook :( Got £750 for it though so all goes into the car fund! Have to stick to using my work laptop at home as well for now :( Also sold my XBox 360 and all my games, and I have a second notebook I used to keep as a spare up on eBay at the moment!!

Have £13k saved at the moment, but want to buy a ED30 with some options on, so am looking to spend around £16-18k.
Just gotta get round to asking my sister for a £5k loan...... ;) Waiting til around May/June though, so I can save a little more and wont need to ask for as much!

ha man we def in same boat but you seem closer to where you wanna be.
am borrowing 5k from the boss!
i have to sell my alfa which will only get me 1k if i,m lucky- or px it in if i go trade!
i,m selling some very beloved bonsai trees if i can
and i,m saving every penny i get. i,m literally living on soup and beans on toast during work. i saved 60 notes last week just on food i would have bought from bakers and deli's etc so 6 weeks of that and i,ll have 360 in the kitty!
my credit rating is sh!te so i cant get a card or a personal loan so its just sve every cent.
no holiday this year and feel sorry for kids cos ive turned into a miser watching every £1 i get.
but the car will be worth it in the end.
and it will have dsg and be black and 3dr  :smug:
good luck with your car... doing the right thing NOT looking, that was my mistake!and fanx for the advice and support.
keep us posted!

Ive sold all my electronic items - I can buy them again later if I need them.

Unfortunately the wife and kids wont let me sell the TV...... lol ;)

Nearly £10k sounds very very steep for an 05 car with that many miles.

To put that in perspective, I sold my 2005 54 with only 45k for a shade under 9.5k - and it was well specced too, monzas, winter pack etc etc.

Got next to no calls when it was above £10k.

There seem to be a lot of cheaper ones about on Autotrader and at auction as well as loads of ambitiously priced examples.

I'd keep looking meantime!
