Major Newbie and DIY mechanic Wannabe
« on: 19 February 2009, 15:10 »
Hi from Watford;

Having fun tweaking my Golf, figured out the stereo connections, sorted a bulging tyre, fitted an alarm and remote central locking, half-fitted a remote starter (I have a post about this...) and now have bits of car floating around everywhere.

Otherwise am a self-employed web designer developer with a healthy portfolio.

Help if you can with the starter problem and I'll hopefully be able to help the even newer newbies :)

Sorry Mk3 :)

I only passed my test last August... and at 27 that's not good.

Best car going was a Golf Mk3 Automatic 5dr. Does the job, the 1.8 is enough of a kick to keep me going for a little while ;)

Want to do lots with it, but not as much cash as I'd like, so far figured out and installed a sub (today removed the box and rewired to parcel shelf for more boot space)

Installed new stereo, (bit more complicated as the stock wiring wasn't compatible)

Installed keyless entry (fairly easy), Alarm (very easy), remote start (Easy once I someone pointed out I had an immobiliser), alarm powered immobiliser... removed the last two for insurance reasons.

Installed electric aerial as the one I had was rusted closed.

Was pretty good condition, judging from the stock stereo it had a few old owners so a few repaired rust spots, average mileage but a good runner :) Well chuffed!

Aaaany way, waffled on about crap, love my first baby :) love the oil under my nails and love the constant urge to improve. Lambo doors next ;) ... maybe once the rest of it looks a bit more presentable.

Thanks everyone for help so far on other posts, I'll have plenty more I'm sure. It started stalling today but I think it was my dodgy wiring in the alarm immobiliser as it's an automatic... I hope it's nothing more after reading the horror stories, will attack it in the morning and see. If it's more, I'll meet you on the Nissan Micra forums :-p
