Last weekend i ripped out my crappy factory fit VW stereo and fitted an Alpine H/U with new 2 DIN cradle.

I had the same issue with cabling. I can concur with previous posts - all you need is an adapter plug and a booster for your radio.

If you require the Alpine to turn off when you remove the key out of the ignition then that will not work as this is connected to the ECU (so i was informed in when i bought the adapter) TBH I didnt see the point in opening the fuse box and working out what but you may.....

Also, if you do take your live via the fusebox you wont be able to turn on your headunit on unless the key is switched in the ignition.

When your in the car park with your hommies you wont be able to play your choones without leaving your car unattended init.

Yes I do read the frigging manual  - don't think you've got a hope in hells chance of getting into all the sub menus on an alpine without reading it!

IIRC - Supposedly the 9812R needs power from the battery as it's 60wpc and causes a large current drain.

Gonna go and fish out the manual and see! lol

I'm not questioning that it won't run with out being directly connected to the battery, I just think I may have to mess around with the loom adapter as I'm sure the main live feed is separate? Am I making sense?

Yeah, I see what your saying but the main live feed isn't separate, its part of the CANBUS adaptor which will then be connected to your ISO adaptor. (its either a yellow or red cable, cant remember, if you have a multimeter is will all make sense lol)

Hi AlanD,

Hopefully you're still monitoring this thread.

I think I may be getting somewhere - is the adapter you bought plugged straight into the small multi-pin connector on the back of the Alpine, or does it connect onto the ISO connectors on the end of the wiring adapter that came with the Alpine?

I dragged the unit and the instructions out and the wiring adapter that came with my Alpine does present a separate yellow wire with bullet connector for connecting directly to the battery and a bullet connector for connecting to ground. There is also an ISO connector for the speakers and an ISO connector for dash illumination and switched power along with other trailing wires.

There is a great big f**k off yellow sticker on the yellow + wire demanding that you connect it directly to a battery due to high current drain!

So I'm thinking either you have a direct Alpine to MK5 golf wiring adapter, or they changed things on later 9812R models (I've had mine for quite some time!).

What da ya fink?

Cheers matey. :)

later 9812 alpines have the yellow(permanent 12v+supply) in the loom
the canbus generator does NOT give you the premanent 12v it gives the following connections only
ignition/switched live
rpm
speed pulse
illumination
reverse
handbrake
some canbus adapters will only give rpm and switch live
yes you can connect the switched live to the fuse box it will work fine
but be careful when doing so as depending on where you connect it you can cause a fault to come up on the clocks
but that is easy to get reset

Sir, you are a superstar! Thanks

I've ordered my loom adapter and radio adapter now and will just splice them together as I have in the past on other cars - I'm not too worried about CANBUS and switched live as I will be taking the fascia off anyway.

Cheers. :)

have you also ordered the aerial adapter as that needs to convert from vw/fakra to iso
