I'm so jealous Robin, I don't trust any of the dealers in my area one bit :(

....Sadly, that's a familiar story and it's not just a customer being ultra fussy either. It's the luck of the draw based on where you live.

Imagine the scenario of an engaged couple home-hunting, they've just viewed a possible home which they both loved, but he's a dedicated Dubber.....

Him: "Darling, before making our decision let's go and check out the nearest VW dealer"

Her, after a long pause: "Sweetie, why do you want us to do that?" Thinking whether she was right to have accepted his marriage proposal.

I'm the same.  I've been complaining of my boot literally filling with water for the last three winters - at least 2" deep in the spare wheel well.  It has had one 'master technician', then another, then their body shop, then their 'Eos roof expert' - even though three winters ago, I personally told the dealer principal (and everyone downwards) exactly where the water was leaking from.  I couple of weeks ago, I literally blew my top, walked into their workshop, jacked up the front, and with the help of their tiny service reception girl, had to physically show them where the leak was coming from.

Every time it goes in, they always miss something off the job, or leave the interior like the inside of a pikey travellers transit van.  And it isn't just my local stealer.  Two other nearby stealers are as bad too.  And as for Ipswich VW, don't get me started on them!

My local Audi stealer is better, but they still can't properly diagnose faults correctly . . . . I really do wonder why Volkswagen Group UK allows such incompetence in all their dealers.  That isn't to say they are all bad, because as Robin can testify, there ARE some good dealers - but sadly, the 'minimum standard of competence' accepted by VW UK is grossly below what should ever be deemed acceptable.

I've actually had much better VAG service in France and Andorra, even with my pidgeon french and catalan!

Do you reckon you could get a photo of the new water pump before being fitted, and another one of the old one?  And you might also like to try the 'blow through' test on the old and new fuel filters, providing that the health and safety boffins don't lynch you (oh, and you don't mind the odd taste of V-Power . . . . and I said blow, not suck!!!!!!     )

....Photos absolutely no problem. Blow-jobs Blow-throughs is something I'll play by ear on the day - I don't want to overstay my welcome as they are a busy workshop and there are H&S rules in place.

Workshops are so different about access - For example, JKM and TTshop politely keep people out whereas VWR are completely open and say that it's mostly common sense and people with performance cars usually have their wits about them.

....Yes, VW UK could and should do much more to raise the standards of VW's frontline representatives. It's what's behind all that slick and glossy VW branded shopfitting which matters!

Just take a look at this premises - A1 Wheel Renovations in Wolverhampton - Looks like a back-street minicab firm, but their customer care and work is very much "A1"!

It would appear not then!  :undecided:

Ask if you can keep the old bits when you have it done.

....Okay, can do.

Why? Are you wanting me to make you a special necklace?

No, just joking, I expect you'd like me to take pics [feckin' perv!] of the parts. I shan't be able to get in my garage soon with all the bits off my car!!

Good to know :afro:

Inevitably (if I'm posting) the thread often meanders off-topic but sometimes in a very positive and useful way, as I think this one did. Lots of helpful-to-all info came out.
