Rear Window Wiper Washer Problem
« on: 18 February 2009, 13:03 »

Has anybody out there got a non working rear wiper motor. Now that's not a request seen very often on forums. The problem is my wiper motor stopped working so I removed it and stripped it down to find that water had got in throught the shaft and made it very tight. Because the shaft was tight the motor was working very hard to turn the flat round nylon wheel under the cover and now it has no teeth left on it, hey guess what it is not supplied from VW. They can supply a repair kit which contailns a shaft, jet and new seals but no nylon wheel. So you can see my problem, I have a perfectly working unit with a duff wheel. (a new one is £87 from VW) and a second hand one is £45 and I dont need 90% of what's in it. Might seem stingy to most but if anybody has an old unit where the wheel is ok I don't mind paying for it.

the problem you've got is that there are 2 size nylon wheels depending on who made the wiper motor.

do you know which one yours is?  the part numbers are different as i might have a spare one depending on which brand.

While we're breaking wiper motors apart..  I've spotted that mine is leaking a little.  The problem part is the plastic L piece that connects to the pipe.  Anyone happen to have that bit

pretty certain the piece you're talking about is fixed to the internal shaft that carries the washer fluid, at which point i can't help as the one that cogs come from has a split shaft.

Rubbish - well if anyone else is reading and happens to have the part!

Mind you, ridg, does the motor come apart easy enough?  I might be able to do away with the L all together.

it's about 8 screws T20 torx IIRC, if it's the elbow that's leaking your best best is some plumbers putty or similar.
