Forge SPLT-R valve for 1.8T, are they any good?
« on: 17 February 2009, 20:38 »
Hi there, we have just bought a nice 2000(V) plate GTi 1.8 20v Turbo, and my wife wants to have a dump valve on it (she likes the noise).  I've had 1.8T's before, I had an ex police Octavia vRS, but never put a dump valve on.

Just wondered if anyone on here knows if the SPLT-R are any good to use as I don't want it going into limp mode as I know these engines need some amount of air recirculation for the engine management.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello,
Welcome to the froum m8...  The wife wants the dump valve??  If you ever get divorced point her in my direction, she sound like my kind of women..

IMO keep away from the split-R. Get the forge 007p plus a cold air induction kit fitted to the car you will get a better blow off sound as it echos back in the the intake plus you will maintain reliability..

Nick

Ok thanks for that, it does have a nice chattering when you back off the throttle but it could do with being a bit louder.

Which induction kit is the best one for these?  I've heard carbonio mentioned a few times - are there any issues with the filter being located in behind the front bumper with water ingress through it?

I've also got a Saab 9-5 HOT Aero and that needs a big sheild to stop water getting into the air filter as it is located low down behind the front bumper.
Cheers

Becareful with cold air feeds; a bit of water gets sucked up them and bang. I've done it and its a pain in the ass to fix if you head is warped, let alone if your block packs in (done that too)
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)
