My new problem - Stereo
« on: 15 February 2009, 16:03 »
Probably more of a rant than looking for a solution really, as I know my choices :)

I disconnected the battery earlier as part of fixing my ABS problem.  After re-connecting everything the stereo went into SAFE mode.  No problem I thought, leave ignition on, it'll sort itself out.  Only problem is, it won't!  I can only assume that when my new dials were fitted, the messing with the immobiliser or whatever stops the stereo from coding itself when a power source is reconnected :(

I guess my choices are:

1.  Leave it alone, and have no music
2.  Buy a new after market stereo
3.  Get a cheap stereo from eBay to tide me over
4.  Buy another gamma unit

And I've no money

they should have your car details as it's on the global system, take it you dont have the owners manual with the code in it?

No code inside the manual sadly, the bit where it should be has been ripped out.

They don't have my car details on any system.  not my current reg, or the old private plate the car used to be on

Don't think it was imported.  Dr M Parsley bought it from new at Page Motors (VW Bournemouth) new in 1999.  Had the private plate on from the start I think.

that may be the problem then if it was a personal plate from first reg,

I rung up VW a while back and gave them the old private plate reg, and they still had no record of the car on their system  :undecided:  The guy told me the problem was they don't have a national database for cars, so they can't look up any cars that are from a distance away.  Ridiculous I thought, like VW can't look up any of the cars they've made!!!
