Electric Windows

I own an 8v Anniversary with a tempremental passenger window.  It sometimes works fine, or not at all, or it goes down and stays there.  If the latter happens, i can leave the car to fetch a screwdriver, i'll try to put it up again and it'll work!  I'm sure it's taking the pee out of me.  Any suggestions?  (And don't tell me just to threaten it with the screwdriver!)

heh heh, mine does the same thing.

If it goes down, sumtimes it wont come back up.. so to get it back to the top u have to turn the engine off, then turn the key so the warning lights come on, then press the up button and it'll go up.

Doesnt matter which button ya press either.

Try shaking the rubber housing with the wires inside it that goes from the piller post to the door as you try to operate the window.
The wires are prone to wear over the years as the doors are being used causing the wires to stretch creating a poor connection

Yep - It normally happens on the driver's side first, cos that's the one that opens and shuts most.  Unplug the wiring, or strip away the insulation.  Check the wires  (probably where they come out of the front wing), and replace the frayed one.  You can get replacement covers for the wiring from any car shop.  Don't bother getting the genuine VW part unless you've got more money than sense!

I have an Anniversary and mine does the same.

I have checked all the connections / wires and there seems to be problem.

I have also taken all apart to make sure nothing was jamming.

I am thinking about buying the whole electric window mechanim (motor, etc), but finding one that looks OK at a breakers yard han't been to successful. It has to be a one touch opening / closing mechanism.

Does anyone know of any good breakers yard in Birmingham / West Mids.

I got a pair of rear motors and all the bits for 60 quid
from a breakers in leicester (Glenfield breakers)
Not to far from Brum
