that cabby link is no good to you, thats only valid for the later blade fuse type fusebox, the ceramic layout is different. I have the pinouts on the rear of the ceramic fusebox in my faq but i have yet to sort out the fuse/relay layout. Your symptoms wont be caused by relay missmatching anyway, if they were in the wrong spot it wouldnt run at all!
MK1 kangarooing can be caused by rust in the fuel system, common fault as they get older as the fuel fillter necks are steel, as are the fuel tanks. Have a look at the filler neck, if you see any rust on it get a new one fitted as soon as you can, then use the magnet on a string trick to fish out any rusticles floating in the tank. Lift up the rear seat, remove the metal cap and then take out the fuel level sender, chuck a magnet on a string in the hole. drive it for a week then fish it out, clean off any rust then chuck it back in. Repeat till it comes out clean.
Once thats sorted, pop off the L shaped hose between the tank and fuel pump, get ready to block the tank outlet or it'll drain all the fuel out! Then shine a torch down the fuel pump inlet, some have an inline basket filter. If fitted it will probably be filled with crud, clean that out & refit. Last of all, chuck a new fuel filter on there.
If all that doesn't help you might have rust in the injection system, which for k-jet is usually pretty terminal
