How to polish out marks...
« on: 12 February 2009, 15:20 »
I am not sure if anyone else has this problem but i am addicted to cleaning/polishing my GTI.

A few days ago i parked the car in a local carpark and some wee f****r keyed the bonnet.  I really dont understand why anyone would do this.

They scrapped their initials "JC" into the bonnet....

I am still getting over the shock.

So any advice on polish/wax or how to fix this would be advised.

Depends how deep it is.

If your car has a clearcoat, ie metal, primer layer, paint then clearcoat & the scratch has gone through to the paint there is not an easy solution apart from respray on that area, bonnet one of the better panels to do, rear quarters etc are a right nightmare as the clearcoat needs to be blended in some where else you get a nice ridge!

If your car has just paint (only older cars have this type) provided there is enough paint depth you would be able to polish it out.

if its quite deep might be easier and cheaper to to get a 2nd hand bonnet from a scrappy or something if you cars is a common colour

respray on the bonnet shouldn't cost too much.

What colour is it? (Red or White are usually the most difficult to match)
