DSG gearbox...changes up with a bit of a jolt

Own a 2005 GTi, 46,000 miles, DSG.  Whilst in Tiptronic mode changing up gear results in a bit of a jolt, not every time, but enough to be concerned.  Mainly from 2nd to 3rd.  Gearbox has never had an oil change.  Not always the silky smooth gearchange as advertised.

Can't quite tie down a pattern, doesn't seem to be due to cold engine or hard acceleration.  Only possible trend appears to be going up hill.

Any owners came accross similar scenario.

All help and advice greatly appreciated.

With a DSG you need a DSG Oil Service every 4 years or 40,000 miles.
At a guess, I'd say you need an oil change!

Do you drive really slowly and carefully most of the time to save petrol?
Then demand max power now and again?

I've found after a boring drive to Mrs relatives the DSGs fuzzy logic is anticipating long sluggish gears (and perhaps the engine ECU too).  The first blast the car gets once she's back indoors can trick the box into a clunky change.  The fuzzy logic learns very fast, the second blast is as smooth as silk.

Just incase changing the oil makes no difference.

I've done 62k miles and have had 2 DSG oil+filter changes. I still get a clunk occasionally going from 1st to 2nd but as Egbert suggests - Usually after doing what Jeremy Clarkson suggested you do: Sedately do the school run and scream home afterwards like a rally driver!

Usually happens under harder acceleration.

Going sound like a loser now but Clarkson comments on the MK5 GTI went along the lines of "You can drop the kids off in a calm manner and then drive home like you have sat on a wasp"

Many thanks to those who replied.

However, still a little bit confused.  For the last two days I have driven the car only in D mode and every gear change has been super smooth as expected.  Surely if the issue was one of oil, then upshifts in D mode would be just as jerky as in Tiptronic mode.

Apart from the obvious what is the difference between shifting in Tiptronic and D mode?  I am guessing that both methods are electronically controlled, just that one way I decide when to change gear and the other way the car decides.  Is there any mechanical link in Tiptronic mode at all?

Apologies if I am being thick, but can anyone please explain the mechanical/electronic process of both modes and how they differ.  And more importantly, how will an oil change eliminate my problem.  Just loathed to spend £276 on something I don't quite understand.

maybe you dont need it, but if you goto sell, I wouldnt buy a car that hadn't had that service done, esp if it was due at 40k and hadn't still been done by say 50k.
