Back to the original question, it all depend whatyou want it for.

I like original, unmoddified cars personally.

I had a 89 small bumper 8V until recentley. I loved that. I didn't drive it very far or very fast, but being used to driving diesels as daily cars it's low down torque and no need to go beyond 3500 rpm suited me.

I've just bought a 1990 big bumper 16V but hav'nt driven it much yet. I prefer the look of the newer car (big bumpers on early cars is just wrong tho) I'll just have to get used to a different style of driving. Power steering is nice. Just enough assistance to help you out parking, but plenty of feedback on the move.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

in standard form and only including GTI variations i would have a edition1 G60 GTI  as i have had a few 8v and 16v already so a ed1 would be something new.

Money no object golf would  have to be a Rallye with a supercharged R32 engine :cool:

RE rallye weight - i cant imagine that it is really that significant

That list of cars is correct.  The Ford Ka stays over on the Isle of Man.  It's steering is sublime, much better than VW's MK5 GTI.

I am really tempted to buy a Mk2 GTI, a car from my well loved Alfasuds era.  Hopefully the steering will be good.
Original condition, just serviced and repaired, NOT modded.

poverty spec syncro was more than a 16v  :shocked:


would like a rallye but to drive prefer the syncro tbh.    mine is near as dammit a rallye underneath,  has as meany ponies and weighs less  and i'm not worried about driveing it like a loon
