mk2 sloppy gearstick - quick question!

The gearstick on my g'reg mk2 gti 8v is quite sloppy, have to hold the gearstick up slightly to prevent catching reverse instead of 1st and theres quite a lot of side to side play when it's actually in gear, is this the kit I need to sort it?

thats got everything you need, the only thing I'm not sure of is the housing repair part (white bit, top left) this bit i would only buy from VW as its a mare to change and ive heard some pattern versions of this are real poor quality (this is the bit that fixes the up/down play in the stick you mention)  The side to side play you mention is likely to be the relay shaft which is the bit at the bottom of the kit in the linky above.

cheers rubjonny  I've had a read of your faq in the maintenance section. For my problem would I need the kit that you used which just seems to have the bushes and smaller bits in or this kit which has a lot more in it?

I got the bushes in a kit from GSF, thats all the wee whitre ones and the orage one.  for the under car kit i got that from VAG, and the relay shaft you can buy from GSF/VAG, but I got an uprated poly bush for it from missinglinkz in the states
in the past when I'm in a pinch I went to me local scrappy and pinched the relay shaft bush from a MK3, the shaft itself cannot be used as its different but the ball you can swap over.  Several SEAT Ibiza/Toledo models also have a similar linkage setup too.
