Tyre Pressures
« on: 02 February 2009, 15:59 »
My flat tyre warning light came on the other day....thought for sure it would be the tyre that just got changed...checked it at 30psi...all ok there..

went round the car...and would you adam and eve it...the last one I checked was at 24 psi....I normally put them all to 30psi...however checked and the label is on the fuel cap suggesting that I should run them at 2.4 bar!

2.4 BAR = 34.809 PSI

Seems high to me does anyone run at 35 psi? i pumped them all up to the recommended level anyway...

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

I think it would be best to stick to the recommended pressure, mine are at 34psi.

Yep all boots now running at or around 35.... Have one of those wee compressor things since every garage around me is pants at keeping a working air supply. Thanks for the replies lads

Your car will feel more nimble at 35 psi.

30 PSI is wayyyyyy to low, especially the front.

I run mine at 42 front and 37 rear.

Don't forget, if you run at max load pressures all the time, you will actually use less fuel too.

is F42 and R37 good for handling ability also? Front seems mighty high to me?? All I'm interested in is handling, not mpg..

Not very knowledgeable on tyre pressures! Wish I was!

I have found it the best for handling, best for stability, along with the best for even tread wear.  And that is with either one or two peeps in the front seat, and occasionally the boot filled with Sainsburys offerings.  If it is fully loaded - boot and back seats filled with luggage or wine (wink), then it is 46 all round.

OK, it might not be the best for comfort - but then if you want comfort, buy a Sh!troen!

And my RS4 runs at 48F 44R - with just me or me and the SWMBO !!!

EDIT: Those above GTI pressures are for 18" rims - 17" may be slightly different.

strange I recently looked at my front tyres and thought I had a puuncture (luckily I didn't). All four tyres were at 2.2bar which I assume the factory/stealers set. Naturally I popped down the local BP and increased the pressure to 2.4 which is recommended on the fuel flap. But after seeing T_T's post will pop down there again and increase them to the max pressure.
