thank you for all of your reply's I think I'm gonna stick with the 8v project as I am new to this and the 8v is easier to work on, my own car is a 95 ady engine and if me and our kid are succesful with the cl I will probs have a go at the 16v into my car its just a learning curve for me and I'm gonna love every minute of it Thanks again lads    Andy

Good luck with it but for what you will gain it seems pointless to me, Golfs are cheap at the moment I would have thought it would be easier to sell it and buy a Gti.

Is the ADY 75 or 100 bhp, the AGG Gti lump is 115 so if yours was a 100bhp it is a lot of work for 15bhp.

your right it would be easier and cheaper to sell the cl and buy the gti, but me and our kid have the dub bug and want to get our hands dirty mainly just to see if we can do it. We are new to this scene and we will love  evry minute tinkering around the 8v is easier to work on and sounds like a good starting point to me lol a lot of you might think otherwise but you have to start somwhere and then go on to other things

I know that but have you tried to get an insurance quote it will be nearly double what a Factory Gti would cost plus you will need a engineers report when you have finished, it seems a lot of work to me for very little gain, fair enough if you were dropping in a Vr6 but not a 8V.

No he has a 1.6, someone put up a list the other day but it might be the 100bhp version.
