Heater matrix, I think
« on: 29 January 2009, 23:15 »
Hey again guys I know it's quick for my second question but...

when buying the car I tested the heater and it seemed to work fine but the guy had to pick me up and had got caught it trafffic.
When driving home I turned the heater down and then started to get chilly...I turned the heat back up and no heat! even whilst bombing down the motorway...it was freezing! Does this sound like the heater matrix or should I be looking elsewhere?

Cheers

Replace bypass valves to heater matrix with 22mm copper pipe and your problem will be solved. Have a search, theres lots of info on doing it. Unless your heater doesn't work at all because it has been bypassed in the engine bay or it has dumped boiling water on your feet then there is no need to replace it. Offending items \/

Only prob is if you remove the bypass valve and you have the original mk2 heater matrix it may one day burst boiling coolant all over your feet...

Either way, the fault is not the heater matrix per se, as stated previously by others. I'm toasty warm in all driving conditions and not worried in the slightest about a bursting heater matrix - it's an unlikely occurance. I guess I'll 'get mine' if it does burst, but it won't ... :D

danny_p did you mean replace the bypass valve with mk3 hoses instead of copper pipe?
