Any problems with your DSG box?
« on: 28 January 2009, 15:22 »
Im considering a DSG, but am concerned about the repair/replacement costs if anything should go wrong. I would like a general idea of how reliable these systems are in comparison to a standard manual box.

If you have a DSG system, please comment on how reliable yours has been so far, including your mileage etc. It would help me get a better idea of how reliable the systems are over manuals....

Please vote in the poll!

Thanks in advance.

ifti,

Just buy a manual and sleep soundly.
To assist it would help if everyone polled that their DSGbox was terrible (even if you don't even own a car).

My DSG is superb.  In all my years of experience driving many, many different main-stream cars, the DSG really is a superb box.

Yes, it does have some slightly 'unusual' operating traits - but learn to adapt your driving style - and there isn't a gearbox which can match it.

You have just found our resident 'troll' - just ignore him when he comes up with posts like that.   Though he occasionaly does come up with some interesting and worthwhile stuff - so sometimes you do need to give him air time!

45000 kms and no issues.
I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades. Especially if your teammates are bad guessers.

Next you'll be polling us on mpg.
Then tyre life.
Then residuals.

Just buy a Toyota Yaris.  That should be safe enough.
