Idle and tune up.

Just carrying on from my last set of questions. I took my car for a tune up but when the bloke went to adjust the idle screw, it had no thread left to turn and the car was idling at 1100. It should be just below 900 right? I took apart the whole thing, butterfly? Gave it a good clean with carb cleaner but this still didnt make a difference to the idle. Do i need to replace the whole thing? or is there a fix for this?

Is this a 1.8 16v top? I have a 2.0 16v engine but someone said it looks as though the bottom is from a 2.0 16v and the top from a 1.8 16v. Sorry about the picture, my digicam is playing up.



The following pipe is made from a cloth like material, can it be replaced with a rubber pipe? Or do i get another one like this, this one has a rip on the underside.

Hard to tell if it is a KR or 9A head from the pictures, both heads are fine and work well on either engine. Is the pipe with the rip the one from the air box?, it may be the one that goes to the exhaust manifold for the hot air. Best fit the correct pipe.

that pipe goes to the exhaust manifold.....so rubber will melt.........

if fact just take it off and dont bother replace it........

you dont really need it..... its only like runing your car with an induction kit......... there isnt much diference at start up as the engines cold anyway and by the time its hot the engine is hot aswell and will need cold air for performance!

hot air pipes are useless.......... you need cold air pipes...

Thank you mate. Im still learning about golfs. I noticed it came from the exhaust manifold but i wasnt to sure wheter it was needed or not. Now i know it isnt. BTW it wasnt connected up, it was just hanging there.
